THE COMPANY

The performing company at East Pointe Dance is an auditioned based group of dancers. These selected dancers have many opportunities to have work set on them by choreographers from New York City; which are later performed at different venues in the area, as well as the EPD Showcase. This is NOT a competition team. All performances are for community service or showcase purposes.

Rehearsals are on Saturday afternoon, 15 minutes after the conclusion of the final regular scheduled classes. These rehearsals typically run two and a half hours. A detailed schedule is sent out before the audition date so that dancers know what the commitment entails beforehand. The schedule is subject to change based only on company majority conflicts (such as SAT/ACT dates, graduation, etc.). A rough draft of the schedule is distributed during the summer so that the audition date is known and vacations can be planned.

The fee for Company is based on the choreographer, event, and costumes fees. The range is sent out with the rough draft schedule. The final fee is not set until I know how many people will be joining since that can sway the numbers. To give you an idea, the fee for dancers this year was $1,200.

Requirements

This Year’s Performances Include

Young Choreographers- Stamford, CT

Our senior company members (Lena Jacobson & Cassie Marriott) choreographed and set pieces for the show. They attended lighting design and composition master classes to better guide them in the choreographic process. This was performed at The Palace Theater in downtown Stamford in December.

DanceFest- Stamford, CT

A wide range of studios from the tri- state area come together for this performance. It is a great way for our dancers to see what is happening at the other studios in the area. Company performed this all together with choreography by myself. This opportunity included master classes, tech, and a performance at The Palace Theater in downtown Stamford.

DRA- Purchase, NY

This is probably my favorite event. It is a fundraiser for Broadway Care’s - Dancer’s Responding to AIDS. Studios from all over the tri- state area come to raise funds and awareness for not only AIDS research and aid, but for performing artists’ needs such as career transition. The company also puts together a themed basket each year for the raffle. This is fun for both parents and students!
