Melissa Hunt
Melissa Hunt is a performer, choreographer, and teacher in the NY/NJ area. She began dancing at the young age of two studying all forms of dance. Melissa trained with many dance companies from the NY/NJ/PA area including David Dorfman, Koresh, Joffrey, Lehrer, & Parsons dance company. She also attended a performing arts high school as a dance major and upon graduation received the reward for outstanding choreography.
Furthering her education, Melissa attended the University at Buffalo where she graduated summa cum laude with a BFA in Dance. During her time at UB, she performed/soloist with the program’s company, Zodiaque Dance Company, participated in Emerging Choreographer’s Showcase, was accepted into the Celebration of Academic Excellence for her choreography, Director of Dancer’s Workshop (a fully student-run production), performed in musicals and received a multitude of awards/scholarships including 1st recipient of the Fist Niagara Outstanding Senior Award and the Morris Arts Scholarship/Robert and Carol Morris Fund for Artistic Expression and Performing Arts. She also attended three American College Dance Festival Association (ACDFA) conventions as well as performed at Jacob’s Pillow with the Melanie Aceto Contemporary Dance Company and at the Dumbo Dance Festival in Brooklyn with the Anne Burnidge Dance Company.
Currently, Melissa dwells in the musical theatre world both performing and choreographing. She has performed in regional theatres: West Side Story(Anybodys) at the John W. Engeman Theatre & West Side Story (Velma) at Harbor Lights Theater Company as well as all around NYC: 27th Annual Gypsy of the Year, Broadway Takes Two, & Showstoppers Benefit Concert at Harbor Lights. Other theatre credits: Jesus Christ Superstar (Rachel) at Plays in the Parks, My Fair Lady(dance captain/ensemble), Evita (dance captain/ensemble), & Annie Get Your Gun (dance captain/ensemble) at Algonquin Arts Theater. She also performs with Community Dance Project, O.K. DANCE Company, & ALMA NYC throughout the year. Melissa also assists and performs for choreographer Al Blackstone with his numerous projects including Born To Dance, Freddie Falls In Love, & SYTYCD.
